The Village Chapel Scholarship Program
The Village Chapel Scholarship Program – First New Scholarships Awarded
The Village Chapel’s new Scholarship Program was approved by the Board of Trustees in 2022 and the first two scholarships were recently awarded to Hannah Smith and John Sebastian.
The Village Chapel believes in supporting members who are seeking higher education and have a desire to promote leadership and service in all spheres of life. We feel privileged to offer this academic scholarship to help fellow brothers & sisters in Christ to make a powerful impact for God’s Kingdom in our world today.
Hannah, the daughter of Pastors Ashley and Vickie Smith, has enrolled at UNC Wilmington for the Fall semester, 2023. She plans to study Christian history with a goal of eventually teaching at a private Christian college. She also enjoys and has had experience at The Village Chapel in children’s and youth ministry and hopes to use that experience at a nearby church during her time at college.
John, the son of TVC members Stephen and Nancy Sebastian, is enrolled as a freshman at UNC Chapel Hill, studying computer science. Following graduation, he plans to work in the field of software development and engineering. He believes God has called him to be a Christian servant and leader in his family, church, community and vocation.
Both Hannah and John have been actively involved in the youth program at The Village Chapel, which is one of the key requirements for qualification for the new scholarship program. Hannah and John will each receive $5,000 from the Village Chapel program and $1,000 from an additional scholarship sponsored by Alex and Sybil Del Bueno. Prior to his passing in 2022, Alex was instrumental in the creation of The Village Chapel Scholarship Program.
The Village Chapel Scholarship Program is funded by the Village Chapel Foundation and is made possible by the generosity of Village Chapel members past and present. The Foundation Board and Committee hope to expand this new program in the future and to that end, contributions to the Scholarship Fund within the Foundation are encouraged. We believe this program is unique, or nearly so, among churches in our area. It encourages participation in the children’s and youth programs at The Village Chapel. We are blessed to be able to make this new program available.
