Last month I offered a short preview of our final Chapel Music series event of the season and would like to share a bit more in this article. As you may know by now, The Village Chapel Music Series has been celebrating its tenth anniversary in the 2024—2025 season and we are excited for the finale, a celebratory concert on Friday, May 9 at 7:00 PM. We are excited to feature some of the wonderful musicians who have played a role in the musical life of The Village Chapel over the past ten years (and even beyond). The Village Chapel Music Series has hosted dozens of concerts each season since 2014 and has been generously supported by church leadership, congregation members, and visitors. This is our opportunity to come together and celebrate these talented musicians and to give thanks to our generous audience.
The performers will include our Village Chapel Choir, Moore Brass (our county’s resident brass ensemble), vocalist Barron Maness, pianist Ed Martel, flutist Kelly Shea, cellist Paul Kirkpatrick, and violinist Amanda Ferguson. We are also excited to present a smaller choral ensemble who will present a set of pieces by women composers. The concert will also include the premiere of a new composition – written specifically for this concert – by the Reverend Dr. Paul Murphy. Dr. Murphy is Pastor of Trinity AME Zion Church in Southern Pines, and a good friend to our Chapel and community. Dr. Murphy has crafted an original composition for mezzo-soprano and piano using words from Psalm 86. Claire Fields, one of our Chapel Choir members, will premiere the piece.
The concert will feature gospel hymn arrangements, American folk songs, classical repertoire, instrumental and choral music of the 20th and 21st century, as well as the aforementioned premiere composition. We will truly offer something for everyone.
This concert, like nearly all concerts here, is free of charge to the public, a gift we are honored to present to the community. Contributions are accepted to assist with concert costs.
