Rev. Dr. Ashley Neil Smith

Ashley is a native of eastern North Carolina, growing up in New Bern. After graduating from Campbell University with a B.S. in Psychology (1995), Ashley studied at Oxford University as a graduate exchange student, “reading law” at Oriel College. Later, while serving special needs children and adults as a case manager, Ashley received a call from Christ to preach and teach the Gospel. Understanding a call to Christian ministry includes a call to prepare, he earned a Master of Divinity from Campbell University Divinity School (2007) and a Doctor of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (2010). In 2018, Ashley earned a Master of Theology (Practical Theology), from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary’s Center for Urban Ministries Education in Boston, MA, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Ashley met his wife Vickie while both were undergraduates at Campbell University. They married in May of 2000, and have four lovely daughters: Abigail, Sarah, Hannah, and Landen. Vickie is a native of Durham, N.C. and earned a M.Div. from Campbell University Divinity School and is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Ministry program at Campbell University Divinity School. Vickie serves’ The Village Chapel as the Minister of Children and Youth.
Ashley served on the Advisory Council for the World Religions and Global Cultures Center at Campbell University Divinity School, the Board of Trustees of Sandhills Classical Christian School, the Board of Friend to Friend, and a teacher of Bible and Humanities at All Saints Christian Academy.
Ashley’s interests include cycling, scuba diving, boating, Christian history and Biblical theology.
Rev. Dorn R. Majure, III, “Trey”

Pastor Trey Majure received his B.A. in Preaching and Pastoral Theology from the Baptist College of Florida, and a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as an officer in the Army and was an associate pastor at First Baptist Church of Vass, NC for four years, and most recently was senior pastor at Cypress Springs Presbyterian Church in Cameron, NC.
Trey’s ministry philosophy is based on John 8, “ I feel that grace and compassion go a very long way in the life of a Christian. I have a passion for ministering to the needs of those around me, and love to see Christ growing in the lives of individuals and the church as a whole. I am a newcomer to the Village Chapel, so my number one goal is to become a part of the community as quickly as I can. It can be a challenge being the “new guy”, but I hope that very soon I will be a part of the church family.”
Trey was born and raised in Mobile, AL. Both his father and grandfather were ministers. Trey was brought up in Airport Blvd. Baptist Church where his mother is still the pianist. His wife Katie and he have been married 11 years and they have three children: Levi (9), Kinsey (6) and Benjamin (2). Trey and his family have moved a lot while serving 9 years in the Army as an officer, and currently resides in Whispering Pines, NC. As a family they enjoy hiking and spending time at the beach. Trey is a die-hard University of Alabama football fan, enjoys playing sports, especially those with a racquet, and his way to unwind in the evening is a good book.
Rev. Vickie Smith

Vickie Carson Smith is a native of Durham, North Carolina. She graduated from Campbell University with a B.A. in Graphic Design. Vickie met her husband Ashley during their undergraduate years at Campbell University. After Ashley received a call into ministry, Vickie sensed a call to serve alongside her husband as well.
Her training in children and youth ministry began with raising their own four beautiful daughters: Abigail, Sarah, Hannah, and Landen. Along with being a mom, Vickie began serving as a volunteer at The Village Chapel, conducting the children’s sermon in the 9:30am Family Service and leading the Youth Group on Sunday nights. Realizing that further theological education would enhance her ministry, Vickie entered seminary at Campbell University Divinity School where she graduated in May of 2019 with a Master of Divinity. While in seminary, Vickie was chosen to serve as a Student Scholar in the World Religions and Global Cultures Center, and was inducted into Theta Alpha Kappa, the National Honors Society for Religion and Theology.
Vickie has recently returned to Campbell University Divinity School to pursue her Doctor of Ministry Degree. She continues to serve the children and youth of The Village Chapel as a full-time employee and reports that Christ is doing wonderful things in the lives of the children and youth through Christian discipleship and fellowship. It is Vickie’s prayer that as the children and youth of The Village Chapel grow in the knowledge and love of Christ, they will continue to serve and follow Him in the years to come.
Stephen Gourley
Director of Music

A native of Goldsboro, Stephen Gourley holds the Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees from the University of North Texas and the North Carolina School of the Arts respectively. He has studied organ and harpsichord with Jesse Eschbach, Jack Mitchener, Erica Johnson, Christoph Hammer; church music with Mark Scott, and piano with Dianne Finan. During his undergraduate studies, he frequently performed recitals on the historic 1800 David Tannenburg organ, housed at the Old Salem Visitor’s Center in Winston-Salem. While at North Texas, Stephen was awarded a teaching assistantship in the choral department and acted as accompanist for the chamber and concert choirs. In 2009, Stephen served as continuo player for the North American premiere of Giovanni Felice Sances’ Missa Sancta Maria Magdalena with the UNT Baroque Orchestra and Collegium Singers. He was named the Outstanding Graduate Student in Organ for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Since March of 2014, Stephen has served as Director of Music at The Village Chapel, an interdenominational community of faith in Pinehurst, NC. He serves as organist for all worship services (totaling 180 services yearly), conducts and accompanies the Chapel Choir, conducts the Handchime Choir, and oversees the children’s music program. Under his direction, the Chapel Choir has greatly expanded its profile, performing for community events in and around Moore County. In 2014, Stephen founded The Village Chapel Music Series, which aims to offer musical presentations of the highest artistic quality featuring local musicians as well as musicians from around the country.
Stephen has served as both Accompanist and President of the Board of Directors for the Moore County Choral Society, an 80-voice chorus currently in its 45th year of existence. In July 2020 Stephen has also served for two years as a counselor with Camp SAY, a summer camp for young people who stutter. He has served churches in the Episcopal, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Lutheran traditions in North Carolina and Texas.
Stephen is equally at home as a solo artist, collaborator, accompanist, and conductor, with musical interests ranging from church music to musical theatre. His choral compositions are published by Renforth Music.
