Ministries for Families
Family Service: Sundays at 9:30 a.m.
The Family Service includes a “Children’s Sermon” time when the children are invited to gather at the Chancel steps to hear a brief, relevant message based on scripture. The children are given an opportunity to answer question, share their thoughts, and close in prayer. Hearing the children lead in prayer is one of the most moving experiences for parents and adults present.
We fully include our children and youth in their larger community of faith. We allow and encourage them, with their entire family, to come to the Lord’s Table and participate in Holy Communion. We actually have a chalice with two sections; the large side is wine, and the smaller side is grape juice. On the first Sunday of each month, the children remain in the service with their families to participate in the entire Family Service (Worship, Prayer, Preaching, and Holy Communion).
**Parents who have children that have not been baptized are encouraged to prayerfully consider meeting with Pastor Ashley or Pastor John to discuss the importance of baptism and to schedule a time for a Baptismal Service. Parents are also encouraged to talk with their children and youth about the significance and meaning of Holy Communion.
Each Advent 4 families volunteer (selected) to read the appropriate Advent Readings as a call to worship, and to light the appropriate Advent candle on the Advent wreath. Families that have participated report the experience as meaningful and memorable.
“It takes a village to raise a child.” – African Proverb
It does indeed take a village to raise children — at least with values that matter most. The Village Chapel offers a variety of youth and teen programs grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ and presented in a contemporary format which appeals to each group.
Nursery (Birth to Pre-K) is available for all three worship services.
